Founder's Day
Our school celebrated Founder’s Day 2025 with a special Mass, meaningful learning activities, and acts of kindness, honouring the legacy of Blessed Nicolas Barré and Mother Mathilde through "Love in Action."
On 27 May 2025, our school celebrated Founder’s Day to honour the legacy of Blessed Nicolas Barré and Mother Mathilde, whose vision and dedication laid the foundation for all CHIJ schools.
In the lead-up to Founder’s Day, our prefects shared reflections on the value of humility, inspired by Father Barré’s life. The Head and Vice-Head Prefects reminded us that just like Father Barré and Mother Mathilde, CHIJ schools today continue to live out the mission of “Love in Action.” This means showing kindness and care to everyone, working hard to develop our talents to serve others, standing up for what is right, and growing as strong young ladies who make a difference. We were reminded that each time we put on our blue and white uniform, we carry forward their humble spirit of service and love.
Across CCE and Social Studies lessons, students learned about Father Barré in age-appropriate ways — from discovering who he was (P1), to reflecting on his teachings (P2–P3), to exploring his deeds and living out the IJ values (P4–P6). To round up their learning, students took part in a Kahoot quiz and the “Beads of Kindness” activity, forming words that represented Father Barré’s virtues. This activity was also connected to Kindness Day SG, encouraging students to live out Father Barré’s teachings through acts of compassion and service.
On Founder’s Day itself, we gathered for a special Mass to thank God for Father Barré’s humble vision, Mother Mathilde’s brave spirit, the dedication of our IJ Sisters, and our CHIJ family today.
As part of the Adopted Sisters’ Activity, students put “Love in Action” into practice by making handphone charms and cards for nurses as a gesture of appreciation, linking to the national SG60 celebrations.
This simple act of service reminded us that just as every small thread contributes to a tapestry, our small acts of kindness contribute to the larger story of love and care in Singapore. To end off the celebration, student leaders led everyone in singing ‘Hold On To Our Dreams’. This song connects to all IJ girls, past and present, reminding us that we are part of something bigger than ourselves.
