Total Defence Day
Our school commemorated Total Defence Day through engaging activities and meaningful lessons on resilience, unity, and the six pillars of Total Defence. Students also learnt the importance of Digital Defence and their role in keeping Singapore safe.
Commemorating Total Defence Day at CHIJ OLGC
This year, our school community came together to reflect on the importance of resilience and unity as we marked Total Defence Day. Through a series of engaging activities and thought-provoking lessons, our students explored how every individual plays a vital role in keeping Singapore safe and strong.
Standing on the Shoulders of Giants
Leading up to Total Defence Day, our morning sessions featured a special sharing by our Prefects. They highlighted how our CHIJ leaders have historically exhibited the six pillars of Total Defence. By sharing these powerful examples of leadership, our Prefects reminded us that the spirit of defending our home is deeply woven into our school’s heritage and character.
Strengthening Our Digital Front
In an era of increasing online threats, this year’s Assembly Programme focused heavily on Digital Defence. Students were taught the crucial steps of Stop, Check, and Don't Click to protect themselves and their families from digital threats. This session equipped our girls with the practical awareness needed to navigate the digital world safely.
Hands-on Learning During Recess
The school foyer was filled with excitement as students took part in interactive recess activities. These included the Emergency Preparedness Relay, where students assembled a "Ready Bag"; The Pillar Hunt, where they searched for information on the six pillars of Total Defence; and Scenario-Based Kahoot Quizzes, which challenged then to apply their knowledge to real-life situations.
Experiencing "Power Down"
To better understand Energy Security, the school conducted an Energy Disruption Exercise. By turning off the electricity for one hour, students experienced a small slice of life without modern conveniences. This "blackout" served as a powerful reminder of our collective dependence on resources and the need for psychological and social resilience.
Deepening Through CCE and Values Education
The commemoration concluded with CCE and Values Education lessons, where students reflected on how the values lived out by CHIJ leaders can be applied in their own lives today. Through these lessons, they considered how they can contribute to Singapore's collective strength and keep the spirit of Total Defence alive throughout the year.
